Just reading the word “curry” elicits sensations of spice and heavenly aromas. It’s a dish so widely adored that many countries have adopted it and adjusted it to local tastes. As a result, you can now treat your tastebuds to a wide range of unique curries. Let’s take a look at a few!

Indian Curry

The origins of curry lie in India, where recipes vary heavily depending on the region. At its base, Indian curry is a luxurious, spicy sauce made of several spices such as turmeric, cilantro, and cumin. It’s a highly versatile condiment that can be put on meat, seafood, or vegetables and served with rice or bread. Each regional variation of Indian curry differs based on which types of ingredients are available in the area. This means you could travel all over India and try a different type of curry in every region!

Thai Curry

Thai curry gets its distinct flavor from its use of fresh herbs, chili peppers, lemongrass, ginger, and shallots. It is often served with meat or seafood and a side of rice. However, there are many variations in ingredients, which is why red, green, and yellow curries all exist in Thai cuisine. Try them all and see which ones you like!

Japanese Curry

Though it was brought over from abroad, curry has become so deeply ingrained in Japanese cuisine that the Japanese consider it a comfort food and eat it at least once a week! It is thicker and sweeter than its Indian counterpart, and almost always mixed with carrots, potatoes, onions, and meat. It is most commonly served with rice, but you can also find it inside fried bread buns or with udon noodles.

These are just a few of the curries you can find around the world. There are many many others, each with their own unique tastes and ingredients. Here at Wing Nien, we like them all so much that we can’t decide which one we like best! Which one is your favorite?
