Gochujang

Hot sauce lovers, meet gochujang!

This spicy sauce has recently been blazing a trail for itself among Asian sauces in the US, often drawing comparisons to sriracha sauce. However, it is so much more than just sriracha’s Korean cousin. Gochujang has been an important part of Korean cuisine for over a thousand years. The process begins with a mix of gochu (a Korean red chili pepper), glutinous rice, soybeans, and salt. The mix is then fermented for years in earthenware pots.

It may sound long, but once you try gochujang, you’ll know the wait was worth it! The result is a uniquely complex combination of heat, sweetness, and umami. It’s a taste so delicious and versatile that you can use it on anything: meat, vegetables, rice, soups… the possibilities are endless. On top of that, it’s healthy! Gochujang contains so many great nutrients and vitamins that it has been internationally recognized for its health benefits.

We bet you’re pretty excited about gochujang now. Here at Wing Nien Foods, we are too! That’s why we’re working on our own gochujang sauce. It’s still in development, but rest assured, we’re creating something really tasty and authentic for you.

Sriracha sauce has taken the nation by storm, igniting the taste buds of foodies everywhere. It has become a beloved condiment for everything from pho to pizza. Here at Wing Nien Foods, we can’t get enough of sriracha either. As a result, we’re working on several exciting twists on this versatile spicy sauce!

But before we get too ahead of ourselves, let’s start from the beginning, shall we? Before we could start developing our own versions of sriracha, we had to educate ourselves on exactly what goes into this sauce, and where it comes from.

History

Authenticity is essential to every product made at WN Foods. The best way to ensure a sauce is authentic is to learn about its history. In the case of sriracha sauce, many people think it is a Vietnamese sauce. However, its true origin is Thailand. It was created in a town named Si Racha, then became massively popular all over Thailand before spreading to Vietnam and the USA.

With each country it reached, the sauce evolved to fit local tastes. In Thailand, it is made of a traditional mix of chili peppers, garlic, vinegar, sugar and salt; it tends to be thinner in consistency and sweeter in taste. Vietnamese sriracha is thicker and hotter than the traditional Thai recipe, and may contain other ingredients, such as tomatoes. American sriracha sauces tend to be more similar to the Vietnamese version.

Our Sriracha Sauces

Keeping the history in mind, we set out to develop our own sriracha sauce with the goal of creating something new and exciting, while delivering the authentic kick of heat we all know and love. These include a sriracha stir fry sauce, sriracha teriyaki, and more.

Again, these products are still in development, but we will keep you updated on our exciting new innovations. Meanwhile, to get your sriracha fix, check out this list of Serious Eats’ favorite sriracha sauces!

Korean Wing Sauce

It’s time to put down the buffalo sauce and step up your chicken wing game! Give your wings a spicy kick, Korean style.

Korean wing sauce draws from traditional Korean ingredients to create a more complex taste. Instead of plain hot sauce, this sauce gets its heat from gochujang, or fermented red chili paste. Mustard, garlic, ginger, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil are also added to the mix. The result is a distinct, delicious flavor that neither you nor your tastebuds will forget.
