Hot sauce lovers, meet gochujang!
This spicy sauce has recently been blazing a trail for itself among Asian sauces in the US, often drawing comparisons to sriracha sauce. However, it is so much more than just sriracha’s Korean cousin. Gochujang has been an important part of Korean cuisine for over a thousand years. The process begins with a mix of gochu (a Korean red chili pepper), glutinous rice, soybeans, and salt. The mix is then fermented for years in earthenware pots.
It may sound long, but once you try gochujang, you’ll know the wait was worth it! The result is a uniquely complex combination of heat, sweetness, and umami. It’s a taste so delicious and versatile that you can use it on anything: meat, vegetables, rice, soups… the possibilities are endless. On top of that, it’s healthy! Gochujang contains so many great nutrients and vitamins that it has been internationally recognized for its health benefits.
