Phở

This Vietnamese soup is one of the ultimate comfort foods. With its flavorful broth, tender meat, and chewy rice noodles, it’s no wonder Phở is one of the most well-known Vietnamese dishes! Bún chả

Bún chả uses the same tasty rice noodles as in Phở and pairs them with grilled pork and fresh herbs. It is also often served with a Nước chấm (a vinegar and fish sauce mix) dipping sauce. Gỏi cuốn

Bánh mì

This Vietnamese sandwich uses French baguettes and native Vietnamese ingredients like Chả lụa (pork sausage), pickled carrots, daikon, cucumber, and coriander. In Vietnam, Bánh mì is typically a snack or breakfast food, but it is eaten throughout the day in the US. Here is a great recipe to try in your home kitchen!

Bánh xèo

Bánh xèo is a crispy, savory pancake stuffed with a myriad of ingredients based on preference. It can be filled with any ingredient, but recipes commonly include shrimp, bean sprouts, onions, pork, and cucumbers. Give it a try at home with this recipe!

Bánh cuốn

This delicious Vietnamese dish begins with a thin rice batter that is steamed to form a wrapper. This wrapper encloses a simple but exquisite filling made from ground pork, wood ear mushrooms, and shallots. It is often topped with fried shallots and fresh herbs. Ramen vs Pho

If you live in the USA, you know how popular ramen and pho are. People have gone absolutely nuts over these noodle soups, and for good reason! Both are amazing, but they’re definitely not the same dish! Let’s take a look at the ways these dishes differ, and what really makes them irresistible.

Origins

Pho is 100% Vietnamese, but the origin of ramen is a bit more uncertain. Many believe that it actually came from China, but spread to Japan and then evolved into a totally different dish as the Japanese adapted it to local tastes. Wherever it’s from, we’re just glad it exists now!

Broth

There’s no one standard type of ramen broth as each region of Japan has its own special version of ramen. However, most ramen broths in the USA are thick and made with miso paste or pork stock.

Pho broth is more uniform; it’s most often clear and made with more spices, such as star anise and coriander seeds.

Noodles

Pho uses Banh Pho, a type of flat rice noodle. These are much more delicate than ramen noodles, which are thicker and made with wheat, making them nice and chewy. Both types of noodles are perfect pairings for the textures of their respective broths.

Toppings

Ramen is often served with chashu pork, soft boiled eggs, spring onions, and bean sprouts. Pho’s typical toppings are completely different; they generally include basil, onions, peppers, lime, and cilantro. These create very distinct flavors for both dishes, but both are equally tasty!

Sriracha sauce has taken the nation by storm, igniting the taste buds of foodies everywhere. It has become a beloved condiment for everything from pho to pizza. Here at Wing Nien Foods, we can’t get enough of sriracha either. As a result, we’re working on several exciting twists on this versatile spicy sauce!

But before we get too ahead of ourselves, let’s start from the beginning, shall we? Before we could start developing our own versions of sriracha, we had to educate ourselves on exactly what goes into this sauce, and where it comes from.

History

Authenticity is essential to every product made at WN Foods. The best way to ensure a sauce is authentic is to learn about its history. In the case of sriracha sauce, many people think it is a Vietnamese sauce. However, its true origin is Thailand. It was created in a town named Si Racha, then became massively popular all over Thailand before spreading to Vietnam and the USA.

With each country it reached, the sauce evolved to fit local tastes. In Thailand, it is made of a traditional mix of chili peppers, garlic, vinegar, sugar and salt; it tends to be thinner in consistency and sweeter in taste. Vietnamese sriracha is thicker and hotter than the traditional Thai recipe, and may contain other ingredients, such as tomatoes. American sriracha sauces tend to be more similar to the Vietnamese version.

Keeping the history in mind, we set out to develop our own sriracha sauce with the goal of creating something new and exciting, while delivering the authentic kick of heat we all know and love. These include a sriracha stir fry sauce, sriracha teriyaki, and more.
